Factory / Plant Manager – Four Ashes, Wolverhampton
Salary: £50,000
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and commercially aware Factory / Plant Manager to take overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our manufacturing site at Four Ashes, Wolverhampton.
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Plant Manager will have full accountability for site performance, ensuring safety, quality, production, and processes are maintained to a high standard. The role is responsible for ensuring tasks are planned, delegated, completed, and monitored, but is not expected to personally carry out all tasks.
The role would suit an individual with experience in concrete, mortar, asphalt, aggregates, or similar process-based manufacturing environments. You will work with an established, experienced team, operate a brand-new, state-of-the-art batching plant, and be supported by an on-site laboratory for basic materials testing.
A handover period will be provided where possible.

Key Responsibilities
Site & Production Leadership
• Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Four Ashes site
• Plan and oversee production to meet customer demand safely and efficiently
• Ensure batching plant and associated equipment are operated correctly and effectively
• Act as the final decision-maker for day-to-day operational matters on site, escalating where appropriate
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation, and site presentation
• Communicate effectively with all departments to ensure production, transport, quality, and customer requirements are aligned
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Ensure health and safety standards are adhered to at all times
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure site rules, risk assessments, and procedures are followed
• Ensure plant maintenance, inspections, and statutory checks are planned, completed, and recorded
• Organise and oversee external contractors for maintenance and specialist works
• Ensure the site remains tidy, compliant, and safe
• Lead site response to incidents, near misses, and emergency situations
People & Relationships
• Lead and manage a team of 5–6 plant staff and oversee approximately 20 drivers
• Ensure appropriate supervision, training, and competence across the site
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with staff, drivers, suppliers, and contractors
• Support team development while holding individuals accountable for standards and performance
Materials, Stock & Logistics
• Take responsibility for all materials in and out of the site, including raw materials, production usage, and waste
• Ensure stock levels, deliveries, and collections are planned and controlled effectively
• Minimise waste and support efficient use of materials
• Liaise with suppliers and hauliers to ensure continuity of supply and service
Quality & Continuous Improvement
• Ensure products meet required quality and performance standards
• Oversee basic testing carried out via the on-site laboratory
• Identify and drive improvements in safety, efficiency, reliability, and cost control
• Support control of operational costs, including materials, maintenance, waste, and downtime
• Ensure site records and documentation are maintained to support audits and inspections
Working Hours & Accountability
• Site operating hours are Monday to Friday, 5:00am – 5:00pm, plus Saturday mornings
• The Plant Manager is not required to be on site at all times
• Start and finish times can be dictated by the individual
• The role carries full accountability for site performance, ensuring processes and procedures are followed by all

Skills & Experience
Essential:
• Experience in a manufacturing or production management role
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Sound understanding of health & safety in an industrial environment
• Experience managing people, materials, and plant operations
• Ability to delegate effectively and maintain oversight
Desirable:
• Background in concrete, mortar, asphalt, or aggregates or similar
• Experience with batching plants or automated production equipment
• Familiarity with quality testing and process control
